Reading Notes: Mahabharata Part B

The story of Bhima and Hidimba has tons of crazy detail that makes it so intriguing.

In the beginning, we see Bhima carrying everyone and run through the forest. "The whole forest was shaken with fear"
Then they find a place to sleep after being on the run all day, but Bhima stays up to watch over everyone else to make sure everyone is safe. (a banyan tree)

The story switches away from Bhima and the other Pandavas and their mother to Hidimba (chieftain rakshasa). It goes into detail of how horrible, ugly and mean he is.
That night, Hidimbda just so happened to be super hungry. He smelled humans in the forest and got super excited. He told his sister to go kill them and bring them back to her. Then they would eat them together and "dance merrily in the wood"

His sister agrees and goes to them, but is super attracted to Bhima when she sees him. She decides that he is worthy to be her husband, so she transforms into a beautiful woman and goes to him. She tells Bhima that Hidimba is her brother and he wants them dead but she has a special place for everyone to hide, and to wake everyone up.
Bhima tells her that he will not wake up everyone and that he can protect himself and everyone else perfectly fine.

Hidimba grows impatient waiting for dinner and furiously storms over to see what is taking his sister so long. When he gets there he is soooooo mad that his sister betrayed him and tries to kill her, but Bhima tells Hidimba that he "will not"!!! kill a woman in his presence, and challenges him. He drags him into the forest and they fight like crazy.
